Prelude in E by Matteo Carcassi
Prelude in E by Matteo Carcassi
Level 1: Beginner
Exercise: (pami) chord pluck
Time 0:22
Matteo Carcassi wrote music for the guitar. During his life, the guitar was still in development so carcassi composed numerous exercises to introduce musicians to the instrument. Prelude in E is an easy exercise dealing with chord plucking with (a,m,i) or ring, middle, index. There is no pick in classical guitar. A pick can only strum chords on groups of strings. If a song requires the top 2 strings and bottom 2 strings to be played together without sounding the middle 2 strings, a pick fails. With the hand, this can be achieved quite easily. Pluck the top 2 strings with thumb and index while playing the bottom 2 strings with middle and ring. You can be more string selective using fingers on the right hand.
Technique
Time Signature 4/4
Right Hand: P (ami) (ami) (ami) chords pluck
Left Hand: Basic chords. 1 Barred Chord at the end

P (ami) (ami) (ami) right hand pattern
Tips
With (ami) plucking, make sure the notes are pulled upwards at the same time. Play the down beat with the thumb (downwards) followed by the upbeat with ami (upwards). This give you wrist balance throughout the song.
