During his life, the guitar was still in development so carcassi composed numerous exercises to introduce musicians to the instrument. Prelude in c is an easy exercise dealing with chord plucking with (pim) or thumb, index, middle. There is no pick in classical guitar. A pick can only strum chords on groups of strings.
Technique
No Barred Chords, 8 Bars, Hold Bass Note on the down beat, suspending each note for half a measure. Simple left hand chord transition. Right hand 3 note pattern loop (pim).

Tips
(pim) is yet another pattern demostrated by Carcassi that you can use in any chords. You can even play a rock ballad using this pattern.
